“For the Lord’s sake, flee the company of blasphemers as you would flee from before the face of fire!”

— Saint Athanasius of Paros (1721-1813)

With these words, the great Athonite ascetic and acclaimed professor of eighteenth-century Greece entreated his readers to turn from the siren call of the then rising European Enlightenment.

Solidly based on the Holy Scriptures and the Fathers, he exposes the ideals of the Enlightenment as serpentine lies that lead their adherents away from Christ and into the pit of destruction.

In the face of two-and-a-half centuries of the revolutionary values of the godless Enlightenment, Saint Athanasius’s words are more timely than ever, giving us a breath of fresh air uncontaminated by the poison of atheism.
