The conference will take place at Lake Guntersville State Park Lodge and Conference Center from March 14-16, 2024 on the theme: The Eighth Oecumenical Council: The Catholic Condemnation of the Filioque. The conference speakers will explore the history, ecumenicity, decisions, and significance of the Council especially with respect to the Great Schism. At the heart of this conference will be an Athonite-style vigil for the Feast of the Eighth Oecumenical Council. A rare gathering and an exceptional opportunity you won’t want to miss!
To include parishes that want to travel as a Lenten retreat or other groups, we are currently offering a reduced rate for groups of five or more.

Lake Guntersville State Park rests along the banks of the Tennessee River in Northeast Alabama. The Lodge offers both a resort-style retreat and an outdoor adventure in the 6,000 acres of natural woodlands. Among the many recreational offerings are a beach complex, an outdoor nature center, excellent fishing in Alabama's largest lake, zipline canopy tours, kayaking, trial rides by horseback and 36 miles of hiking and biking trails. Our discounted room block will be held until January 13, 2024, at that time remaining rooms will be released to the public. Many of the hotel lodging rooms face the lake bluff and offer the most breath-taking views of the 69,000-acre Guntersville Lake. All lodge rooms are equipped with cable TV, a microwave, small refrigerator, an iron and ironing board, and a single cup coffee maker. Reservations are made by paying the first night’s balance, this deposit is refundable if requested 72 hours before the arrival date.

Can children attend the conference?
Yes, children are welcome! Lake Guntersville Lodge is a wonderful place for outdoor activities such as nature hikes, kayaking, boating, horseback adventure rides, and an amazing zip line canopy tour. Please see the venue website for more information. If you would like to connect with other families to organize activities together, please email [email protected]. We hope to offer a special event for children, and will announce details at a later date.
Can you tell me about the meals?
Meals consist of six buffet-style meals with various food options for Thurs. Dinner/Fri. Breakfast, Lunch, Seafood Dinner/Sat. Breakfast, Lunch, coffee and cookies are included. For food allergies, or any dietary concerns please email [email protected] no later than February 27, 2024.
Can I attend all the events without staying at the venue?
Yes, you would choose Conference Registration and choose Meals if you would like all six meals offered.
Is there a part-time registration, or partial meal plan?
There is one standard registration fee which helps cover all the costs associated with providing the conference. Regarding meals, however, if you attend a specific day you may purchase meals on your own directly from the dining hall. There are also dining options 20 minutes away in the town of Guntersville.
Are the talks going to be recorded and offered at a later date?
Some of the talks may be recorded and offered but that will be decided when the conference concludes. The overriding focus is to provide a meaningful retreat for the faithful with enriching fellowship.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Airport: The closest commercial airport to the Lake Guntersville Lodge is Huntsville International Airport which is roughly a 1-hour drive. Atlanta and Nashville are approximately a 3-hour drive.
Driving/RV Parking: There is plenty of on-site parking for guests. Visit the venue website for more information or contact the Park office for RV parking sites and various options.

Weather/attire: March temperatures typically range from high of 75F˚ to lows of 55F˚. You may want to bring a mix of casual, outdoor, and church attire for the conference.

Check-in is 4:00 P.M., and check-out is 11:00 A.M.
Each additional guest beyond double occupancy is $10.00 per night. Additional charges apply for children over the age of 12.
Reservations are made by paying the first night’s balance; the balance is due at the time of the reservation.
All charges are payable by cash or credit card (VISA, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express).
Cancellations and changes made to reservations must be made 72 hours before the arrival date, for the deposit to be eligible for a refund.
Roll-away beds and cribs are available upon request for an additional $11.00 per night.
